Global Warming the Fraud Continues in 2008

2008 will be the year that the climate alarmists will be discredited
Media Promotes Global Warming Alarmism by Jack Kelly at RealClearPolitics via Yahoo News:

About this time last year, Dr. Phil Jones, head of the Climatic Research Unit of East Anglia University in Britain, predicted 2007 would be the warmest year on record.

It didn’t turn out that way. 2007 was only the 9th warmest year since global temperature readings were first made in 1861.

2007 was also the coldest year of this century, noted Czech physicist Lubos Motl.

Both global warming alarmists like Dr. Jones and skeptics like Dr. Motl forecast that this year will be slightly cooler than last year. If so, that means it will be a decade since the high water mark in global temperature was set in 1998.

And the trend line is down. Average global temperature in 2007 was lower than for 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002 and 2001. November of last year was the coldest month since January of 2000, and December was colder still. “Global warming has stopped,” said David Whitehouse, former science editor for the BBC. “It’s not a viewpoint or a skeptic’s inaccuracy. It’s an observational fact.”

But observational fact matters little to global warming alarmists, particularly to those in the news media. “In 2008, your television will bring you image after image of natural havoc linked to global warming,” said John Tierney, who writes a science column for the New York Times. “You will be told that such bizarre weather must be a sign of dangerous climate change — and that these images are a mere preview of what’s in store unless we act quickly to cool the planet.”

“Global warming can mean colder, it can mean drier, it can mean wetter,” said Steven Guibeault of Greenpeace. There is no dispute among scientists that the planet warmed about 0.3 degrees Celsius between 1980 and 1998. What is in dispute is what caused the warming, and whether it will continue. The alarmists say the warming was caused chiefly by emissions of carbon dioxide from our automobiles and factories, and that, consequently, it will continue at an ever increasing rate unless we humans change our behavior. The skeptics say the warming trend was caused chiefly by natural cycles, and that it is at or near its end.

“The earth is at the peak of one of its passing warm spells,” said Dr. Oleg Sorokhtin of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. It’ll start getting cold by 2012, and really, really cold around 2041, he predicts.

The news media promote global warming alarmism through selective reporting. Dr. Roger Pielke of the University of Colorado noted that a paper published in an obscure scientific journal that argued there was a link between hurricanes and global warming generated 79 news articles, while a paper that debunked the connection published in a far more prestigious journal generated only three.

“When the Arctic sea ice last year hit the lowest level ever recorded by satellites, it was big news and heralded as a sign the planet was warming,” Mr. Tierney wrote. “When the Antarctic sea ice last year reached the highest level ever recorded by satellites, it was pretty much ignored.”

Two studies published last year which indicated the melting of Arctic sea ice was due more to cyclical changes in ocean currents and winds than to planetary warming also attracted little attention, Mr. Tierney noted.

And though the record melting of Arctic sea ice this summer was widely reported, the record growth of Arctic sea ice this fall (58,000 square miles of ice each day for 10 straight days) was not.

More than 400 scientists — many of them members of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — challenge the claims of the leading global warming alarmist, former Vice President and now Nobel laureate Al Gore, said a report issued by the Republicans on the U.S. Senate’s Environment and Public Works committee last month. Kailee Kreider, a spokeswoman for Mr. Gore, said there criticisms should be discounted because 25 or 30 of the scientists may have received funding from the Exxon Mobil Corp.

It’s Mr. Gore who is the crook, says French physicist Claude Allegre in a new book. He’s made millions in an eco-business based on phony science, Dr. Allegre charges.

Mr. Gore isn’t alone, says Weather Channel founder John Coleman: “Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create an illusion of rapid global warming,” Mr. Coleman wrote. “Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going…In time, in a decade or two, the outrageous scam will be obvious.”

Has anyone else noticed how the corporate industrialists and financiers have joined arms with the socialist network to save the planet?

This must be a defining time in the history of the planet when capitalism and socialism have joined ranks. That the corporate elites are leading the charge to save the planet bodes well since their commitment to serve the bottom line and externalize the environmental costs of production are a reason for the mess the planet is in.

Just wonder how the corporates who have placed their eggs in the global warming basked will respond to the news that the planet is no longer warming?

I wonder if in any way they will be going out of their way to influence government policy by the back door? No that back door lobbying & policy making goes on in a democracy like Canada’s?

There is controversy over how to interpret the temperature data and how accurate the data is in the first place.

Before any Goreites decide to put on the white sheets and head up to the top of the mountain and await the end because these hurricanes, tornadoes, thaws, ice cap melting and heat waves reported by the media are a “sign of the end of the times”…well they should know that the signs have been around for a long time.

Non-Goreites may find the historical insights interesting.

********In AD48 the Thames flooded and 10,000 people drowned. Two years later the winter was so severe that “all rivers and lakes” were frozen from November until the following April. In AD107 it rained heavily for nine months, the crops failed naturally enough and there was famine. In AD134 there was another harsh winter and the Thames froze for two months, but just five years later a drought was so severe that the Thames actually dried up for two days. AD214 the River Trent overflowed and flooded the land for twenty miles either side. In AD679 “St.Wilfred’s Drought” caused widespread famine the effects of which continued to be felt for the next three years. In AD800 a great westerly gale blew that, according to contemporary accounts, “destroyed cities”. In AD944 another gale blew throughout the country and destroyed 1,500 houses in London alone. In 1035 there was widespread frost on Midsummer’s Day that killed the crops standing in the fields (mind you, a hundred years before in Germany, they didn’t get the crops in because it was so hot that reapers dropped dead in the fields).

England was hit by earthquakes in 1067, 1081, 1089, 1120, 1133, 1180, 1185 and 1193. However the following century it was back to floods again, in 1233, 1236 (twice), 1250, 1258, 1277 and 1287. Mind you, in 1231 it didn’t rain from March until October. The 1300s were fairly quiet, but in 1407 there was frost for 25 weeks, in 1473 and 1478 the summers were so hot that farm-workers died harvesting. In 1480 there was another earthquake, and again in 1508.

In general the 1500s were marked by severe winters, while in 1527 it rained every day from April 12th until June 3rd. 1540 and 1541 were the hottest summers for 500 years. In the early 1600s there were many severe winters – on May Day 1627 snow fell 2 feet deep all over Derbyshire, whilst in 1684 the sea froze over from Dover to Calais.

More recently, many can remember the Great Storm of 1987, but there were similar events in 1703 when up to 15,000 sailors lost their lives, in 1713; in 1861 when up to 200 ships were wrecked off the North East coast; in 1897; in 1901 when 46 ships were lost between Berwick and the Tees with the deaths of 200 sailors; in 1908; 1943 and 1953.

Hardly surprising, then, that the English are so obsessed with the weather. And all this took place before we’d invented Global Warming. Now of course the public and government’s view at the moment is that climate change is a major worry: is this brain washing, misconception, or substantially true ?

However there are two steps in major government revenue generation programmes:

    1) Make people fear something,

    2) Then tax it.

This has worked for centuries !

While I imagine that the environmentalists are in this to reduce the damage that we are doing to the earth, for the corporate industrialists it is all about smoke and mirrors. If they make it look like they are doing something about the environment, maybe no one will notice that they haven’t actually reduced their emissions levels. They can claim to be making the token gesture of buying carbon credits and continue polluting with impunity.

  4. Giuseppe Says:

After a web survey I found that:
NASA says 2007 is the 2nd warmest year

NOAA says 2007 is the 5th warmest year

NOAA reports also that 2007 is the 9th warmest year but only for ocean surface temperature.
So, the sentence above “2007 was only the 9th warmest year since global temperature readings were
first made in 1861” is a misquotation and misleading.

I am an “environmental skeptics” but I also
believe it is fundamental to report the
    “right” information everywhere.

  5. David Cage Says:

It is difficult to squash any existing myth especially if a powerfulinterest has much to gain. Certainly the manufacturers of wind turbines, suppliers of gas and even of oil are now also complicit in the CO2 based global warming swindle.
    Why gas and oil?
Both have a lot to lose from the revival of coal which lost ground in the cheap oil era but now are their only realistic short term competitor. A competitor for a product massively speculated on having an equally massive price rise which could be wiped out if coal were revived. A lot of the big name greens will be financially devastated if the CO2 myth were debunked quickly enough to prevent them offloading their speculative investments.
